Heath Ledger, of Brokeback Mountain and A Knight's Tale passed away Tuesday afternoon, in NYC. This is so sad to me--he was talented young actor and a loving father to his 2 yr old daughter, Matilda. He'll be missed....

NEW YORK (CNN) -- Actor Heath Ledger was found dead Tuesday of a possible drug overdose in a Lower Manhattan apartment, the New York Police Department said.

The Academy Award-nominated actor was 28.

Ledger was found naked and unresponsive, facedown on the floor at the foot of his bed by a housekeeper trying to wake him for an appointment with a masseuse, said police spokesman Paul Browne.

"Pills were found in the vicinity of the bed," he told CNN. "This is being looked at as a possible overdose, but that is not confirmed yet." Browne later told reporters some prescription medications were found in the room, including sleeping pills. But he stressed police have made no determination of the cause of Ledger's death -- that would be done by the medical examiner.

He said the pills were not "scattered about."

No note was found and there was no indication of foul play, Browne said. Ledger was found at about 3 p.m., and was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel about 3:30 p.m.

At least the media didnt do it the way Kurt was announced.

"there is a 27 year old male found dead in Kurt Cobains home, details to follow" thAT was classic. Everyone knew it was Kurt.
Odd to say the least.

Because he had a prescription of Ambien, as he'd been having sleep cycle problems for months. The pills, by the way, were not "scattered around" as was originally reported.



Actually, he was found unconscious by a housekeeper, who was trying to rouse him for a massage appointment he had.



It's a shame that he's going to be forever ID'd by Brokeback Mountain...I didn't like the movie, not because I'm homophobic (rather I'm far from it), but because I didn't see this "great love story" everyone was talking about. I thought the movie was stupid. Better that he should be remembered for his work in A Knight's Tale or Ten Things I Hate About You (which was based on Shakespeare's Taming of the Shrew).



Sad that little girl has to grow up without her daddy now, though, isn't it? And actually, Matilda is two years old.



The housekeeper called Mary-Kate Olsen because she was the first person she found in his speed dial on the phone. I agree that 9-1-1 should have been called first, but the fact that Ms. Olsen was able to provide some security officers as well probably kept it from becoming a three ring circus.

You've never seen A Knight's Tale? Really fun movie--the setting, the story all very very authentic to the time and place, for the most part. The parts that aren't? So wrongly, glaringly anachronistic (ie: the crowd of spectator's at the joust pounding and chanting Queen's We Will Rock You...), somehow it works. It's an odd little piece of cinema, and one of my favorites.

I remember her last name is Smith, but thats about it.

The whores name is, Anna Nicole Smith.

And I just found out today that the coroner ruled Mr. Ledger's death an accident. I had a feeling it was so.... RIP Heath, I'll miss you.
