See, I always thought it had a Floyd on it, but according to that it doesn't.

For those who don't know, this (the guitar below) used to look like the one Badass posted.

That post above was me, btw!

Ed mentioned in an early interview that he "loved & hated the Floyd, initially."
He said he had to seriously EQ his tone, because the Floyd lent itself to a more abrasive, less brown sound.
EVH preferred the standard Fender Tremolo on his VH 'Black & white' guitar, and had no problems with using it in the studio context.
However, live, the Floyd was far more practical.

Take a closer look at the guitar in the Kramer ad A.J.
That was a special guitar Kramer made (with Eds help) for that ad. Its what us Ed heads call the Ad guitar.
This is the axe your thinkin of.

He's gotten to be a bitch lately, so has Dino. And DiveBomb only comes to CVH when he's got a new project he wants to boast about, and Ron says that some of those projects were his.

Whoa, whoa, hold on there Bruthas.
It wasn't Dive's projects I was gettin in my shop. I only helped him with some neck painting. He gives me alot of credit.
You might be thinkin of anouther guy. Remember way back when, before my hyatis on the CVH forum, a popular "Frankenstra t" guy stopped in after I was postin some of my work and proceeded to do what he could to discredit my stuff? Not gonna give any names, but he's the guy who now Im gettin his guitars in my shop.
I gotta thank em though. My stuff has improved leaps and bounds. Found out ya aint gonna get rich doin copyrighted guitars.

Ed first used Charvel guitars from the early days up until 1980.
He split ways becaus ethey started striping guitars and selling them. That pissed Ed off.

Then in 1982 Ed endorsed kramer. Who he stayed with until late 1990 early 1991. Kramer had an exclusive deal with FR. But FR was selling the trems in the after market so a lawsuit destroyed Kramer.

1991 1996(7) Ed was with EBMM. The in late 1996 the Peavey Wolfgang came out.

Note:

Ed was never under any contract with Charvel. In fact he was playing Kramer guitars as early as 1980,81.
The Unchained Guitar is a Kramer with the unlicensed neck that looks like a Fender. That was another lawsuit neck. Hence the name "lawsuit neck".

You can find detailed info on all this on various Kramer sites.

Okay back on topic:

I've been thinking, and I think he used the pickup out of the SG later used on Dirty Movies. Think back, in 57' they changed the name of the Les Paul to a SG, and introduced the new Les Paul (the model known today). What model pup was in the Frank? 57 Gibson P.A.F..

actually AJ i'm pretty sure what happened is they stopped making the Les Paul for a short while and made the SG under the name Les Paul, but Les Paul(the guitarist) didn't like the SG or something, so they rereleased the "old" les paul, and named the "new" one SG, to avoid confusion.

edit: (oh here we go, the real story)
"In 1960, Gibson Les Paul sales were significantly lower than they had been in previous years, so in 1961 the model was given a completely new body style that was thinner and had two sharp cutaway horns that made the upper frets more accessible. The neck was slightly heavy, which made it tilt downwards. The neck joint was also moved up about three frets. It was felt the new design could compete with the popular Fender Stratocaster, another benefit being lower production costs than that of the previous model. The guitar was advertised as having the "fastest neck in the world," due to its slender neck profile and virtually non-existent heel. The newly-designed Les Paul was popular but Les Paul, whose namesake was carried over from the previous version, did not like the new design and asked to have his name removed from it. Gibson renamed the model the "SG" which was short for "solid guitar". Even though Les Paul's name was officially removed from the model in 1961, the plastic Les Paul nameplates (positioned between the rhythm pickup and fingerboard) were in abundance in the Gibson factory and SG models having these nameplates were built and sold by Gibson up to the end of 1963.
....

SG versus the Les Paul

Physically, the SG has a shallower body than the Les Paul, and thus is much lighter; the neck profile is also typically shallower, although this varies from year to year and guitar to guitar. The body is usually made entirely of mahogany (a notable exception is the Swamp Ash SG Special and some walnut bodied 1970's models), and does not have the curved, maple top section of the earlier design; neither does it have the accompanying body binding. The SG is "neck heavy", a fairly uncommon trait in an electric guitar. Perhaps the most striking visual difference is that the SG is a double-cutaway guitar. The standard SG shares the basic pickup and control layout (twin humbuckers with dedicated tone and volume controls, three position selector switch) with the standard Les Paul. The three main variations on the basic Les Paul design (Special, Jr., Custom) also had equivalent SG models."

I wonder how many mounting screws Edward used in the early days?
