For me it was Panama. I remember when I got my first MP3 player that song was on it and I tried to play it, and after 6 days I finally got some help, turns out, he was tuned to Db, instead of E.

Well, I'm not good enough (yet) on guitar to replicate anything that man does on one...but I know how to play the opening bars of Jump on my keyboard! And I was learning I'll Wait just before we left home, so I'll have to pick that up when we get back there....

For me it was the intro for Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love, but, that is the only VH song I can play right now..

See thats the beautiful thing about Van Halen, it is simple 3 chord Rock and Roll, it's the solo's that blows everyones mind.
Now bare in mind that there are some songs that Edward just tears the shit out of the guitar (I'm the One, Hang Em' High, & LOC).
But most of the time it's just simple chords. Remember that he is tuned to Eb, and other than that, it's just majors and minors.

The 1st Van Halen song I learned to play was Dance the Night Away. When I started to learn how to play the drums, I came back to Van Halen II and tried to make my best there.

=VH= II is definitely the best album ever (for a drummer anyway).
I truly believe that if you can play 'Outta Love Again' you can play anything.

I do have a Van Halen tribute band, called "715". We have 4 setlists, one of which is an all VH setlist. The others consists of SRV, Ozzy, VH, GN'R, Led Zep, and some other cover songs, but done =VH= style. Oh...don't tell anyone, but we also do 5150.

Nice. If we ever meet each other, then we'll do a nice jam session performing some VH stuff.

(Oh, don't worry; just 04 of us will know about you playing 5150: me, you, God and the World). Very Happy

BTW, 5150: the song or the record? Question

I can play the whole record, I can play all =VH= records all the way through, with the exception of VH3.

But in the bands case, just the song. I'm trying to "modify" 'Summer Nights' so that it becomes CVH worthy.
I'm thinking change a few lines, extend the solo (watch LWAN), and make it...like I say CVH worthy.

And in my deep study of VH music, I have to say VH I is the hardest to play.

It's pretty hard. But depending on the song, I try to match the feel to a CVH album (Like 5150 to 1984). I tried to match Summer Nights to Diver Down, it wasn't as hard as it might sound, but the the lyrics is where I fail, and I fail quite often.
